'Tis the season, and it can be expensive... Between gifts, food, travel, and Christmas season expenses, why not save some money on holiday decor?
Here are my tips for decorating your house on a budget:
Start Small
You don't need everything all at once. Start with a small budget and grow your collection with only things you love.
Shop after Christmas Sales/Rummage Sales
Christmas decor is very inexpensive after the holiday season. So go searching for items at rummage sales or shop at your favorite stores starting the week of Christmas-New Year's. I find most of my holiday decor on clearance during those 2 weeks.
Ideas for cheap Christmas Decor:
Wrap your wall art with holiday wrapping paper
This is one of my favorite things to do because it can change every year. My daughter loves to pick out what paper we are going to use, and it will vary from cartoon characters (like the Grinch, Snoopy, or Rudolph) to modern designs (like snowflakes, plaid, or words). Each year, we see what papers are available and in our budget.

Use Fake Snow instead of Garland
Some years, we like to shake up our staircase with a fun sledding scene rather than a garland. It is a super fun way to save some money, as all you need is a bag of fake snow, strings of white lights, and little figures that are sledding (we use dollar store penguins).
Just place the "snow" on the banister and wrap it with the lights to hold it in place. Then place the figurines in positions that look like they are sledding. So easy, and your kids will love it!

Use Dollar Store flowers to spruce up your garland
Collect poinsettias, lilies, holly, and berries, then separate them to place in your garland to make them stand out. The tops of the flowers remove easily, and if they are sitting in a place that doesn't get touched, they will stay in place the whole season.
