Never did I predict that on my son’s first birthday, he would give the party guests a sneak peek into his noticeably higher levels of sensitivity.

I’ve considered the impression it would make on her as a young girl as all of this was happening. I recognized that if she could come along and witness the hard work, the conversations, and even see the things mom and her friends had built, she would be encouraged to follow her dreams and do what she loves as well.

Sensory Jars.  Calming Jars.  Whatever you want to call them, they are addictive to make, and kids love them!

Fred “Mister” Rogers was more than an American television personality. He was more than a father and husband. He was and still is an inspiration to many, even to this day, over 16 years after his death.  There are many lessons from Mister Rogers that we can use while raising our children.  Here are a few of my favorites.

As I work to stop chasing perfection, my reactions and mindset are positive and growing. The clean home, the organization, or the kids consistently having brushed teeth and picked up toys won’t matter anymore if these people are not in my life.

The comment I get the most as a single mom is, “I don’t know how you do it.” To that, I say: “I just do it.” My boys make it easy. They are my reason for being.

When asked to write a post about National Stepfamily Day (which is Sept. 16, by the way), I thought it would be another easy installment. After all, step-parenting is something near and dear to my heart.

Empty nest syndrome is a period of sadness or depression that sets in after your last baby bird flies the coop. I’ve seen evidence of this on Facebook for years – and with good reason.

Dad plays a significant role in the breastfeeding journey and is no longer just something that “the women” should be concerned about. Partners are crucial to the success of breastfeeding.
